Beating Poetry with a Hose

“Introduction to Poetry” by Billy Collins addresses the notion of  whether a poem should mean something or just wash over you. Ultimately, it can be both, but sometimes you just need to leave the poem to simmer—there’s no need to beat it to death. I’ve just added the poem to the Poems by Others page as a favourite poem I enjoy sharing at poetry readings.
