John Carley’s innovative and beautiful poetry book, Nothing But the Wind, was published in 2013 by Gean Tree Press in Scotland. This book is part ekphrastic poetry, responding to Hiroshige’s “Fifty-Three Stations of the Tōkaidō” woodcut prints; part renku, with verses that link and shift in their easy yet sometimes startling flow from beginning to end; and part empathetic haiku writing as John enters the era when Hiroshige lived, penning masterful poems to fit. “Entering the Era,” my afterword to John’s book, is now available through the Introductions page. You can also view John’s free online book at the Gean Tree Press website.
