The page for “my” cherry blossom postage stamp now sports a few new photos of the stamp (scroll to the bottom), including an unveiling in San Francisco by the mayor, the Japanese consul general, and other dignitaries at the Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival. I was not present, so I don’t know if my translation with Emiko Miyashita from the back of the stamp was read aloud, but probably not. I also wonder how many of the thousands of people who have bought the stamp (150,000,000 copies printed so far) have stopped to read the poem. Perhaps only a small number, but it’s nice to think that they might. I just ordered four more sets of the stamps myself! I recommend ordering the stamps online at www.usps.com, because most post offices have repeatedly sold out. Do you have your own set or two yet?
