Quotations About Haiku

I always love a good quotation! Quotations about poetry are even better. And ones about haiku are better yet. Take a look at the On Haiku page, where I’ve just added seventeen new quotations, starting with the sixth one (by Yusef Komunyakaa), that I like to interpret in terms of haiku. Hard to pick a favourite from these new quotations, but I’ll go with Gary Snyder: “A great poet does not express his or her self; he expresses all of our selves.” Surely that's the point of haiku, to express what is common among us all, and thus to express humanity.
