Haiku BookmarkIn 2004, the Washington Poets Association published a trio of poetry bookmarks to promote the organization. One of those bookmarks featured five of my haiku, presented here. These poems were first published, respectively, in Mainichi Daily News (Japan), the Haiku Society of America Newsletter (first prize winner of the 2000 HSA Henderson haiku contest), Frogpond, Haikukai (Japan), and Hummingbird. warm winter evening— the chairs askew after the poetry reading
meteor shower . . . a gentle wave wets our sandals +
after the quake the weathervane pointing to earth
spring breeze— the pull of her hand as we near the pet store
reading in bed my pulse flickering the lightly held bookmark
