Alan Watts and Haiku

I recently came across a quotation by Alan Watts on how it’s the frame that makes art—not the frame itself, but the fact that the art has a boundary, edge, or limit. What makes a true artist, he says, is how the artist frames the subject, whether the medium is “a painting, a poem, a musical composition, a play, a dance, or a piece of sculpture.” I’ve just added this quotation, with commentary, as a new conclusion to my annotated essay on Alan Watts, “Haiku Missionary: An Annotated Response to Alan Watts’ ‘Haiku,’” available on the Essays page.
