Pope and Carruth,
on Haiku and Otherwise

New delectations on the Poems by Others page are Hayden Carruth’s “While Reading Bashō,” added to the “Poems About Haiku” section, and Alexander Pope’s “Sound and Sense.” And speaking of Pope, I’ve also added “Poets in the Park 2005: Opening Remarks” to the Speeches page. I thought I had lost this text, as I did not have it on my computer, but recently came across a printout. This was the welcome talk I gave to attendees of the 2005 Poets in the Park conference I directed in Redmond, Washington, in which I describe the serendipitous experience I had when visiting Pope’s Manor in Binfield, England. It is still an amazing story.
