I’m heading to Japan on 23 November to speak at several haiku events. Here are some of the highlights:

27 November 2013: Official visit (as Haiku Society of America vice president) to the Bashō Museum in Iga Ueno, Japan, and then meeting with the mayor of the city, Sakae Okamoto.

28 November 2013: Guest speaker for the Modern Haiku Association in Tokyo. My presentation is “An Overview of Déjà-ku,” about haiku that bring to mind other haiku.

30 November 2013: Keynote speaker for the Haiku International Association annual convention in Tokyo. My presentations are “Haiku Neighbours: North American Haiku Today” and a reading of my haiku in English, with Japanese translations by Emiko Miyashita.

2 December 2013: Guest lecturer at Sophia University in Tokyo, on the subject of “Haiku Lessons from A Book of Tea.”

Should be a great trip, and I hope to take lots of photographs, especially while visiting Nara, Iga-Ueno, Kamakura, and Tokyo!
