In 2001, 21 of my photographs were included in Digital Photography Handbook by Mark L. Chambers (New York: Hungry Minds). I also served as the book’s editor. In sharing my photos with the author during the writing and editing of this book (in particular the poems and photos in my “Open Window” online ebook gallery published by Brooks Books in 2000), the author asked if he could include my photos. Although none of the photos were originally digital, the author used them as examples of various photographic techniques and content. The following images show a few pages from the book where my photos are featured. Due to the quality of the scans, despite the author’s appreciation, my feeling is that the photos did not look their best. The Digital Photography Handbook is also available online (with a limited preview, or try searching for my name to view those pages).
In his acknowledgments, Mark L. Chambers offered the following thanks:
This book is a highly visual piece of work, so I have many people to thank for their help with both the words and the images! First, a round of heartfelt thanks to Michael Welch for his stunning images that you’ll find showcased within this book! Michael has traveled the world with his cameras, and his uncanny eye for composition has proven itself in photographs of every genre. I was incredibly lucky to be able to pick images from a selection of his photographs that complemented my work perfectly. You’ll find a presentation of his haiku (melded with many of the images here) online at www.family-net.net/~brooksbooks/welch/index.html [now changed to https://www.brooksbookshaiku.com/welch/, and see also “Open Window” ]. (It’s fortunate that he also happens to be the copy editor for this book as well!)
