From Haiku Meridians
These five poems appeared in the bilingual English/Romanian anthology Travelers on Haiku Meridians/Călători pe meridian haiku (Editura Premier, Ploieşti, Români, 2010), edited by Marius Chelaru and Olimpia Iacob. These poems, translated into Romanian by Olimpia Iacob, originally appeared in my “Thornewood Poems” sequence. Though not originally centered on the page, all poems in this anthology were centered by the editors.
clouds of pollen
drifting through sunbeams—
a sparrow’s sudden flight
a red berry on the trail
I look up
to the chickadee’s song
dried leaves on the trail—
a thistle bends
in fern shadow
first glimpse—
white swan
in the forest pool
broken to the heartwood—
an old meadow elm
after thunder
nori de polen
plutind printer razele soarelui—
zbor neaşteptat al vrabiei
un bob roşu pe cărare
privesc în sus
la cântul chicadelei
Frunze uscate pe cărare—
un ciulin se pleacă
în umbra ferigii
prima ocheadă—
lebăda alba
în lacul din pădure
zdrobit în inima pădurii—
un bătrân ulm de pajişte
după tunet
