The following five poems appeared in Keeping Faith: Yuki Teikei Haiku Society 50th Anniversary Anthology 1975–2025, edited by Gregory Longenecker, published in 2025 by the Yuki Teikei Haiku Society in San Jose, California. The latter two poems were also included in the script for “The Poet’s Journey,” a kyogen-style dance and reading by Ellen Brooks performed on 10 May 2025 at the Asilomar Conference Center in Pacific Grove, California, as part of the organization’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
cherry blossom drive—
I talk back
to the GPS
night of the verdict—
I wonder how many
blossoms have fallen
Easter egg hunt—
the backyard birdbath
relecting sky
spilling from a daffodil
in gentle rain
a ladybug
the falcon’s cry
from across the lake—
summer’s end
