The Versifier’s Syllabic Lament

by Bruce Wodhams

Pity the poor haiku writer,

the sorry, penniless blighter;

for what good is one syllable

if the thing is not billable.

The haiku, though maybe quite brief,

is just seventeen times the grief;

so expect no haiku from me

if you think you’ll get it for free.
