Unbroken Curve: 1996 Anthology, Northwest Region, Haiku Society of America, edited by Cherie Hunter Day and Ce Rosenow. Illustrated by Cherie Hunter Day. Haiku Northwest, 1996, 28 pages, paperback, 5½ by 8½ inches. $7.50 postpaid from Cherie Hunter Day, 15584 N.W. Trakehner Way, Portland, Oregon 97229 [address no longer correct]. This finely designed anthology includes 41 poems by 30 members of the HSA in the Pacific Northwest. Cherie’s excellent illustrations grace almost every other page in the book, and its passage-of-time poems reflect the diversity of experience in this haiku-active region. Here’s Connie Hutchinson’s title poem from this recommended collection, plus a sample by Robert Major:
winter harbor
moonlight etches the wake’s
unbroken curve
In the blue circle
at the bottom of the well . . .
heads in silhouette.
