The Essence of Modern Haiku, Really?

In 1993 I wrote a short review of Seishi Yamaguchi’s The Essence of Modern Haiku. I believe that review was never published, and I include it on this site now. Also included is a new postscript that reassesses the book more than two decades later, seeing it in a brighter light than I did originally—but not entirely.
