The Tanka Society of America’s
Formation and Future

An essay I wrote on the formation of the Tanka Society of America now appears in the “Tanka” section of the Essays page, in two versions. The shorter published version was just published in Ribbons 11:1, Winter 2015. I’ve also posted an unpublished version, about twice as long as the published version, which provides more details and lists more names of the people who have helped with Tanka Society of America activities over the years. The longer version contains everything that appears in the shorter version. This essay was written to celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of the Tanka Society of America, which I founded in 2000. I convened the society’s first meeting on 14 April 2000, in Decatur, Illinois.
