If there’s a theme to my additions to Graceguts in certain months, the prevailing focus for June of 2025 has been to add content published over the years in Geppo, the journal of the Yuki Teikei Haiku Society, not to mention some additions connected to the huge “Haiku from Index Cards” content added in May. Here are all my June 2025 Graceguts additions:
On the Essays page, I’ve added the following four pieces from Geppo:
“Summer Moon” and “First Cold Night” challenge kigo invitations (spring and fall of 1998)
“In Memoriam: George Knox” (summer 1999)
“On Counting Syllables” (fall 2001)
On the Commentary page, look for the following six additions from Geppo:
“Frost on the Pumpkin” (2000)
“Passing Cloud” (2001)
“Morning Sun” (2005)
“One Slow Swing” (2007)
“Fourth of July” (2008)
Another addition to the Commentary page, from The Heron’s Nest, is “Silent Night” (2019).
On the Collaborations page, I’ve added “Leaning into the Wind” and “Afterglow,” two renku I contributed to, written at annual retreats of the Yuki Teikei Haiku Society at Asilomar in Pacific Grove, California (1991 and 1993).
In May of 2025, my big addition to Graceguts was “Haiku from Index Cards.” As an expansion of that content, look for the following:
A new “Seasonal Haiku” page with links leading to spring, summer, autumn, winter, and new year poems from my “Haiku from Index Cards” selections
A new page called “Paperclip Poems,” featuring all my haiku tracked on index cards that have required a paperclip to keep two or more cards of publication history together (complete with photos of each card)
Image carousel of “Paperclip Poems” added to the Haiku and Senryu page
Image carousel of index card photos added to the “Index Card Essays” page (available through Haiku and Senryu)
On the “Meteor Shower” essay page, I’ve added photos of all the index cards on which I’ve tracked the submissions and publications of this poem (probably my most frequently published poem), and I’ve also added photos of my original notebook page from 1998 where I first wrote this poem at Asilomar State Beach in Pacific Grove, California
On the “Meteor Shower” essay page, I’ve also expanded the Timeline section by adding photos of two bookmarks made with this poem in 2002 and 2004
On the Reports page, look for my selections and commentary from the “2025 Bloodroot Haiku Award,” sponsored by the North Carolina Poetry Society, for which I served as judge. This content appeared on their website and in Pinesong, their annual anthology of winners from all their contests.
On the Digressions page, check out “My Haiku Bookmarks.”
On my Appearances page for 31 May 2025, I’ve added a listing for being guest tanka editor for Solitary Daisy #53, among a few other additions of upcoming appearances.
On “Step Quota,” available through the Haibun page, I’ve added a link to the Rattle website, where my haibun was the featured poem on 23 June 2025, complete with an audio recording.
Check out the “Contributor note” added to “Separation,” available through the Sequences page (published in Rattle).
Meanwhile, on my Rengay website, look for my “Magic Eight Ball” solo rengay and “Filling the Filigree,” written with Alan S. Bridges, both from Mariposa. I’ve also added a “Contributor’s note” to the “Something Fishy” and “True Colours” rengay, both from Rattle.
Thank you, as always, for reading the content on Graceguts.
