A Taste of Translation

A translation theme runs through most of these recent additions to Graceguts. New to the Translations page is the “2020 Traffic Culture Exhibition Winning Haiku,” which follows up on 2018 and 2019 translations I did with Emiko Miyashita for this annual Japan Rail exhibition at Ueno Station in Tokyo of train-related haiku and photography. I’ve also updated the 2018 and 2019 pages with new photos. Speaking of Japan, on the Reports page I’ve just posted results for the “2020 Morioka International Haiku Contest,” with Japanese translations by my cojudge, Toru Kiuchi. I look forward to cojudging this contest for a third time in the fall of 2021. On the Rengay page, take a look at “Vibrating Strings,” written with Eduard Ţară, who also provided a Romanian translation for publication in 2018 in the Romanian journal Haiku. And on the Haibun page, check out “Morning,” recently published in Drifting Sands Haibun. For a bit of trivia, this is blog post #700!
