More new stuff on Graceguts! Here’s what I’ve added in the month of November 2024:
I’m delighted to have twelve of my best haiku and senryu in The San Francisco Haiku Anthology, Volume Two, just published by Spare Poems Press. Look for these poems in “From The San Francisco Haiku Anthology, Volume Two,” available through the Haiku and Senryu page. Also check out my poems from volume one, for which I did layout and design, way back in 1992.
New to the Poems About Haiku page are the following five poems: Laure-Anne Bosselaar’s “Lately,” Alfred K. LaMotte’s “Edge of the Poem” and “Gentle,” Paula Gordon Lepp’s “Can You Hear It?,” and Joyce Sutphen’s “What to Do.”
I’m grateful to have had many of my haiku, senryu, and tanka translated into Chinese by Chen-ou Liu. The latest addition to my “NeverEnding Story” page (available through Haiku and Senryu), with translations from his blog, is the following tanka:
morning sun
warming our sheets . . .
for a moment
as you slide your body down,
your nipple in my navel
A new addition to my Trifolds page is “A Dolphin or Two,” a 2012 collection of fun poems in the form of what Allen Ginsberg called “American Sentences.”
Freshly added to the Haibun page is “Reunion,” recently published in the Hugo House Coming Home chapbook, presenting my connection to this revered Seattle writing center.
On the Photographs page, look for photos of the 2024 Seabeck Haiku Getaway (four albums, one for each day) and the 2024 Skagit River Poetry Festival (one album), at which I was the Robert Sund Memorial Poet.
I’ve joined the Bluesky social media platform. Not sure how active I’ll be, but I’ve added links to my account, accessible through my Bio and Contact Me pages. Find me at https://bsky.app/profile/captainhaiku.bsky.social. And speaking of social media, I’ve gone through Graceguts to update old links to my Twitter account to use new X links.
New on the “Seabeck Haiku Getaway” page, available through Digressions, is my 2024 group photo, and a celebratory video by Dana Grover. The Seabeck retreat is always a highlight of my haiku year, and this October’s getaway was no exception.
Speaking of digressions, I’ve added “2024 Haiku Invitational” information to my Haiku Invitational summaries.
The Blurbs page now includes two new endorsements from me. One is for Terry Ann Carter’s In the Spaces Between Bonsai (longer poems about haiku, which is near and dear to my heart—see “Poems About Haiku”). The other is for It Breaks Your Heart by James Knippen and Daniel Shank Cruz, featuring baseball haiku.
My essay on “The Mysticism of Ordinary Experience” now includes a short new postscript, and the Your Thoughts page has a new comment from Anna Eklund-Cheong. And, as always, I’ve updated my Appearances page, including a few new listings for events in 2025.
Meanwhile, on my Rengay website, I’ve added “Going Away” and “That Time of Year” to the solo and two-person rengay pages. I’ve also added John Thompson’s review of Rengay.com to the Essays on Rengay by Others page.
And on the Haiku Northwest website, I’ve built a new page featuring Haiku Northwest’s newly published 35th anniversary anthology, Glimmering Hour, which I coedited. I plan to expand this page with additional content soon, and will also be participating in several readings celebrating this new book in the coming months. I’ve also created a brief memorial page for former Haiku Northwest member Jim Westenhaver.
Always glad to have you visit and explore Graceguts. If something in this month’s additions particularly pleases or interests you, please let me know!
